MVP build of membership platform to support gyms, social clubs, sporting clubs and more to operate their business
The Problem
Membership-based organisations—gyms, social clubs, sporting clubs—often run on a patchwork of spreadsheets, disconnected payment systems, and manual admin. Off-the-shelf solutions exist, but they're either too rigid, too expensive, or built for enterprise scale that doesn't fit smaller operators.
The founder of ScaleMembership saw the gap: clubs needed something flexible enough to handle their unique structures, simple enough to not require training, and priced for organisations that aren't flush with cash.
What We Built
We partnered with ScaleMembership from concept through to a market-ready MVP, handling full stack development, architecture decisions, and deployment infrastructure.
Member Management
A central dashboard where club admins can:
- Add and manage members with custom fields
- Track membership tiers, statuses, and renewal dates
- Store notes, documents, and communication history
- Search and filter across the entire member base
Flexible Billing
Membership structures vary wildly between organisations. The billing system supports:
- Recurring subscriptions (weekly, monthly, annual)
- One-off payments and fees
- Family and group memberships
- Pro-rata calculations for mid-cycle joins
Self-Service Member Portal
Members get their own login to:
- View and update their details
- See payment history and upcoming charges
- Manage their subscription
- Access club announcements and resources
Multi-Tenancy Architecture
Built from day one to support multiple organisations on a single platform, with complete data isolation and organisation-specific configuration.
Technical Approach
- Frontend: Next.js with a clean, mobile-responsive interface
- Backend: Node.js API with PostgreSQL for relational data
- Payments: Stripe for subscriptions and one-off charges
- Infrastructure: AWS with CI/CD pipelines for rapid iteration
- Auth: Secure multi-tenant authentication with role-based access
Where It's At
ScaleMembership is now live and in market, onboarding early adopters. The MVP gives the founder a solid foundation to validate product-market fit, gather feedback from real users, and iterate quickly based on what clubs actually need.
